Unit Title: Grandparents for the Holidays
Objectives:
1. To develop greater compassion for others and their community.
2. To improve oral reading fluency.
3. To improve writing skills.
Activities:
1. TLW visit a local nursing home and read books, sing songs, share poems and plant flowers with the residents.
2. TLW reflect on experiences in written journals.
3. TLW share journal entries and photo slideshow at the end of the unit to encourage others to become more involved in this aspect of their community.

This is a wonderful project. This project will be fulfilling for you as teacher as well as your students!
Field trips to places where kids can get hands on experiences are GREAT activities! Students will come away with a real sense of why your objectives are important!
